Joe’s work is instantly recognisable and is strongly influences by the Scottish Colourists. He began gaining recognition and winning awards during his time at Glasgow School of Art.

Joe Hargan was born in Glasgow in 1952 and studied at Glasgow School of Art. Hargan’s work is instantly recognisable and is strongly influenced by the Scottish Colourists.

His works are held in numerous corporate collections in the UK and also in private collections in Brazil; Canada; Europe; New Zealand; UK and USA.

1952 Born in Glasgow
1970-74 Studied at Glasgow School of Art
1981 Elected Member of the Glasgow Arts Club
1985 Elected Member of the Paisley Art Institute, then later that year elected a Council
1989 Chairman and President of the Paisley Art Institute which he held for 11 years
1996 Awarded the Paisley Art Institute diplomas for the quality of his paintings and his
service to Scottish art.

He is a founder member of Group 81 Artists.
